    Wireless Security Training

    http://video.google.com.au/videoplay?docid=7277333407800222691&pr=goog-sl

I like this idea of "shock tactics" for consumer wireless awareness. Nothing beats reality.

Any plans to star in any more blockbusters?

Thanks very much for putting that there....

I had some interesting phone calls after that litle outing. Usual abuse but my favourite was someone asking where they could download one of those wireless networks from. No idea how you got my number Mark.

For those open access points, how many of them may have been on purpose vs a customer not setting up their access point correctly?

    Interesting...

In my case, it was a trip round suburbia so it was home user AP's I was seeing.

    Re: Wireless Security Training

Makes me wonder if they could have been setup correctly, but either have their PC, or the device itself, taken over at a later date leading to the AP being re-configured to an open state?  I mean, how many home users truly monitor their AP close enough to know a change occurred?  Just my paranoid side coming out.

Humm...maybe a research grant for monitoring of new access points in a neighborhood and see how/if they change over time.  :)

Yes, a more up-to-date version of neighborhood watch :)

Now wouldn't that be a great thing to start. Protect families by organizing collectives of folks on the net to patrol neighborhoods and help parents ensure their home pc's are safe and secure from the big bad world.

BTW as a side comment. In France Orange sells DSL. You get a Livebox. All liveboxes have the same username and password. I heard of a guy ;-) that moved to France and couldn't get Internet access for a while so he used to drive to the nearest town, find an AP, could tell it was Orange from the SID, login to the admin interface, disable WEP and use it, turn WEP back on after he was done and everyone was a happy bunny!
